Repair or replace? How do you know which is the right solution for you?
Repairing a dock can be the worst thing you can do in certain circumstances. You should select a qualified, reputable marine contractor inspect your dock before beginning any repairs. What might look a simple matter of replacing a few boards could be throwing good money after bad. Replacing the top structure such as decking may actually weaken the rest of the dock. Those new boards and new fasteners may hold in the next storm only to reveal the weak structure (such as pilings, bolts and framing) underneath. If that is the case, you’ll find yourself replacing the newly repaired deck as well as the structure underneath that probably should’ve been replaced to begin with.
